Meeting Rob

No Comments 21 November 2012

This will be the first guest blog I’ve posted. I had never really considered allowing a guest post but after meeting Rox a little bit ago, and getting to know her, I felt comfortable having her words on my blog. First of all, she is one of the most real people in my life. She’s honest, she’s smart and she’s kind. I find it rare to meet someone who is the exact same offline as they are online, but Rox is that for sure. I look forward to sharing her words with you and for her first post, she wanted to share her thoughts on our first meeting.

I recently met Rob in person. I feel it’s necessary to have written “in person” because so many of the people we “meet” only takes place online, at least that seems to be the case for me right now; but that is fodder for its own post. One of the first things I noticed about Rob was his ability to hold a conversation. Like his blog is well written, he communicates just as well. The topics we chatted about were indicative to both of our characters. Passion was a reoccurring theme that I feel, well, passionately about.

Passion is the driving force in life. Without passion there is no inspiration, creativity or drive behind the biggest of dreams. Rob has big dreams. I even thought to myself “wow he is motivated and striving for his goal.” I never thought, “those don’t seem achievable”, because having passion in what you do is the driving force behind success.

Our conversation shifted to the people we’ve met and the varying degrees of passion within these people. We concluded that people with passion were awake to life. It doesn’t matter what you’re passionate about as long as you’re passionate about something. It can be the simplest of interests to large venture capital ideas. If you involve what you’re passionate about into your life there becomes a burning desire to strive for more and achieve on a higher level. One of the things I’m passionate about is passion because I see it as the light force driving humanity. Those who engage in what they’re passionate about go further and being around them is contagious. My meeting with Rob was like that. I know he will achieve all he’s set out to do and because of that I offered him the use of my time. Rob has a lot of opportunities available if someone wants to join him on his passion trail that is on the way up.

This was pretty deep content to cover with someone on a first “real” meeting but our interaction was light and I walked away knowing there would be more passion filled conversations.

I Like You…But I Don’t Want to Talk to You…

5 Comments 20 November 2012

How many times have you had this happen to you?

You write one of your friends a message on facebook. You don’t hear back from them. A week, two weeks, three weeks go by and no reply. Then one day, you post a picture or update your status and your friend, the one you wrote and haven’t received a reply from, likes your photo or status.

I’ve had this happen many times. There are “friends” on facebook I’ve been trying to get ahold of for a while. I don’t have their phone number or email so facebook is the only way for me to communicate with them, I also want to Buy instagram followers because that way I can become more active on Instagram and eventually find my friends. I will leave a few messages unread with the goal to respond to them in a timely manner, depending on what the message is all about. I get that people are busy so I don’t expect a message back right away. But far too often, I’ll have outstanding messages with someone who likes something I post and yet I still haven’t gotten a message back from them.

I see this on the pages I manage as well. People are far more likely to “like” a status than they are to comment on it. Why? I think because it takes less effort and as a society we are becoming worse and worse at communicating and expressing ourselves.

What do you make of this?

Words of Wisdom From Will Smith

This video contains clips of Will Smith from interviews he’s done sharing his advice on life, happiness and learning.

What is one piece of advice you’d like to share?

Mind would be: find something that you are passionate in and pursue that. Without having something to love and inspire you, life won’t be as fulfilling as it could be.

You Don’t Have to Prove Nothing to Nobody Except Yourself

No Comments 12 November 2012

My favourite scene in my favourite movie, Rudy, comes just after Rudy quits the football team before the last practice of his senior year at the University of Notre Dame. One of his mentors, a groundskeeper who helped him out with a job and a place to stay when he first went to Notre Dame, finds him hanging out in the stadium when he should be at practice. The conversation between Rudy and Fortune is truly inspiring and every time I watch it, it makes me feel very powerful and enstills the belief in myself that I can do whatever I set my mind to.

You don’t have to prove nothing to nobody except yourself. And if you haven’t done that by now, it ain’t gonna never happen.

Trust in yourself. Follow your dreams. And don’t let others hold you back.

I Am the Master of My Fate; I Am the Captain of My Soul

The title of this post, which are the last 2 lines from my favourite poem, Invictus, is what guides my life.

I have all the control in my life to do what I want and whatever happens to me is up to me.

Peace of Mind

No Comments 06 November 2012

I have a hard time quieting my mind sometimes. I spend a lot of time on my own and without it, I don’t feel balanced. Trying to find peace within myself is something I’ve been working on for a long time. I’ve learned what I need to be happy but it’s always good to have a reminder. This quote is a great reminder of that for me.

Six Songs That Were New To Me

The benefit about having XM radio in my car is that I can listen to a variety of music genres very easily and it also means that I get to hear a lot of songs that I normally would never hear of. Over the past few weeks, I’ve been writing down some songs that really caught my ear and so I share them with you. Some you may have heard, some maybe not. I’d love to know which one you liked the best:
